Extremely Effective Effective Tips for Monetizing Ads on Your Blog
Is your blog not getting the return you thought it would? Are you not earning nearly enough? Well, I'm glad you're here. On this post, I have compiled a list, from around the internet, of extremely effective tips to monetize your blog in order to earn more and worry less.
The Basics
If you are here, then you probably already have ads on your blog, but they aren't generating the income you need. Well, first let's cover the basics.
You get paid from ads in 2 ways, CPM and CPC. CPM stands for "cost per 1,000," which means how much you are going to get paid for 1,000 impressions, or views, of that ad. The average CPM around the web is about $1. CPC stands for "cost per click," which means how much you are going to get paid if someone clicks on the ad. CPC can be anywhere from $0.20 to $50, depending on the ad. Earning $50 if someone clicks on the ad is very very rare.
Highest Paying Keywords
Now that you know the basics, to be successful, you have to understand that certain keyword ads pay more than others. For example, an ad relating to the keyword, insurance, is probably going to pay more than an ad relating to the keyword, recipe. See the infographic below, for the top 20 most expensive keywords in Google Adwords.
As you can see, keywords relating to money, finance, and medical, pay the most. So, if you have a financial or medical blog, you're lucky, you already have high paying keywords to use. For some blogs, it is going to be harder to make that extra money, but that doesn't mean you can't do it. Try writing a few articles, with keywords that you know pay well, and see if your audience enjoys these articles. If they like it, that's great, if they don't, then write content that they do enjoy, and work on better ad placement to make up the difference.
Ad Placement, Type, and Size
Diversify Your Ads
One of the biggest mistake is only enabling image-based ads. You can increase your revenue by 30% just by enabling text-based ads in addition to image based ones. Also, if an ad is doing well, keep showing it, if it's not, change it to a different ad, or remove it all together.
Ad Networks
There are many good ad networks, with the most popular being Google Adsense, however this may not be the best ad network for you. I have listed a few of the ad networks below. Please review them, so you can pick the best one for you.
